My wife, Alexa, just popped into my office and reminded me that Valentine’s day is coming up. I think she had her own reasons for telling me that – but it got me thinking about relationships, soulmates, and especially, how love endures.
People ask me about love all the time. Will I find a boyfriend? Is my girlfriend “the one?” How will I know when I’ve found my soulmate? I’m a medium, not a matchmaker – but I act as a middle-man to relay messages between souls in heaven and their loved ones on earth – so I can usually tap into some heavenly guidance to answer their questions.
Love is the answer.
The great thing about talking to dead people is they know what’s REALLY important. When you’re looking back from a heavenly vantage point, you realize that a lot of the things that made you crazy when you were alive don’t matter at all when you look at the big picture. What does matter in life are the people you love – and when you meet your soulmate that love never dies.
So, let’s talk about soulmates.
A soul mate is your twin flame – someone your heart is intertwined with at the deepest level. Some people believe that you’ve shared past lives with this person. I don’t know about that, but I can tell you from my experience as a medium, you will carry that soul connection with you into the next world.
Does everyone wind up with their soulmate?
Every couple you see walking around are not necessarily soulmates. It’s totally possible and very common to have a long, happy, productive relationship with someone who is not your soulmate – but that relationship’s place is in the here and now, and it might not go any further. You might not reconnect with your husband or wife in heaven – but you will surely reconnect with your soulmate.
What if you miss your big chance?
Some people look back and realize they let true love slip away because they were preoccupied with other things or in another relationship. You might not even realize someone was your soul mate until they’re not in your life anymore. If you think you missed your chance – don’t worry. You can trust the universe has a plan to bring the two of you back together.
Be patient. Don’t put your life on hold while you wait– be open to new experiences and relationships. Remember, in the end, if it’s meant to be, it will be.
Your soulmate wants you to have a happy life.
I can’t stress enough that you have to be open to all kinds of love, and to trust in the divine plan. Sometimes people lose their husband and they are afraid to date again because they don’t want to risk not being reconnected in the afterlife. It doesn’t work that way – new people cross your path for many reasons, and sometimes the person on the other side is the one pulling the strings and making things happen.
If your soulmate passes, realize that they’re not looking down at you and feeling jealous! They KNOW that you will be together for eternity. But while you’re going through your life on earth, they want you to be happy. The absolute last thing they want is for you to be alone and keep on mourning them while you still have a life to live.
Who are your spirit guides and what do they do?
I have great news! You are never alone. Angels and loved ones in heaven are always around you, watching over you, helping you. But that’s not all. You also have special guides assigned to you. These spirit guides are there just for you, and they can see you with absolute clarity and have only your best interest at heart.
What is a spirit guide?
A spirit guide is a soul that has passed, maybe centuries ago, and taken on the divine job of watching over you. A spirit guide is not a family member or even a friend. Instead, they’re a “spirit volunteer” who spends decades learning about you at the deepest soul level to be able to help you during your journey here on earth.
Spirit guides are divine beings and are 100% nonjudgmental. Their mission is to watch us and guide us – but of course, we have free will, so we sometimes decide to ignore their help. They allow us to make mistakes when we decide to go against their advice and care about us so unconditionally that they keep trying to gently steer us back toward making the right choices to live our best life.
Your spirit guide is there just for you, walking silently beside you. Although you may not feel them, they are always there. Your spirit guides help you with so many things during your life. They help you to meet your soulmate, making sure you connect with that special person, pulling strings to make sure you meet at just the right time and smoothing over any obstacles that might get in the way of the relationship working out.
Your spirit guides also help you discover your life path and introduce you to the people who will help you along the way. That might be a person who comes into your life to give you a nudge into a new job or someone you meet randomly (or so you think), who ends up being your best friend. During the journey, your spirit guide helps you get through some of the difficulties that you might encounter, and some of those challenges might lead you towards even better things.
There are ways you can connect to your spirit guide. Meditation and journaling are good ways to get connected. Try to sit quietly with the thought of your spirit guide and what you need help with. For example, if you are trying to make a decision and just don’t know what to do, write the question down on a page of your journal then sit quietly for a few minutes of meditation. Don’t even try to think about the question. Just still your mind and open yourself up to receive their divine guidance. After this period of meditation, pick up your pen and journal about the question you wrote down. Let the words flow, and allow the answer to come to you as you are writing.
Even though you won’t meet your spirit guide face to face during your lifetime, you will feel their comforting presence when you need it. Always remember you are not alone and don’t be afraid to just say a silent hello or thank you to your guides every once in a while. They’re always happy to connect with you, and the more you acknowledge them, the more open you will be to receive their guidance. And when you get that nudge that you’re supposed to do something or avoid a certain person or a certain path, listen. Your spirit guide just might be trying to help you get where you need to be.

What does speaking to the dead have to do with getting back together? Believe it or not, there have been many times when I have used my psychic gift to help those here in the physical world recover from a breakup. If you are reading this article right now, I am sorry to hear that you are going through this. Healing from a broken heart is sometimes just as painful as healing from an illness. The hurt is lingering, and it can even make you lose hope.
The secret is knowing that you are not alone. Remember that your loved ones in Heaven can see tomorrow just as clearly as you can see yesterday. Here are some life lessons I have learned through my many readings. What ones apply to you?
If it’s meant to be, it will be…
True love always finds a way back. If the person you were with was truly your soul mate, you will be reconnected in the future. Sometimes things fall apart and we realize how valuable that person is and how special the relationship was to us. We reconnect with the person only to find and discover an even more meaningful love, friendship and connection.
Other times, it’s the opposite. The time apart can make you see things from a different angle and help you realize you need and desire something more. In the end, things will work out the way they should. If you are meant to be with that person, the universe will make sure you are brought back together in a divine way. If you are not brought back together, it simply means there is someone out there who is more deserving of your love. The next step is finding them or letting them find you.
Take time to rediscover yourself.
So many times after a breakup, the sudden loss can make you want to reach out and reconnect right away. If the relationship ended without closure, it can play tricks with your mind. You may not be able to get that person out of your mind, or you may replay things again and again. Through all of this, you need to make sure you don’t lose yourself in the process. Remember, true happiness comes from within and only you can create happiness within your life. Take this opportunity to rediscover yourself and the things that make you happy. Reach out to old friends, engage in recreational activities and enjoy the time with yourself. You will discover things about yourself that you have long forgotten.
Trying to reconnect immediately after a breakup is not a good idea. These things take time, and just as you are trying to process your own emotions, so is your partner. Give it a few weeks until you feel you are emotionally in a good place. In the meantime, keep your heart and mind safe. Remember, if you still love and respect your partner, you need to show it. Respect them by not talking bad about the them, and don’t say anything you will regret in the future.
Always make sure you have a handle on your emotions. You control your emotions; your emotions do not control you.
Don’t be afraid to let your walls down.
It’s okay to be afraid to date again. A breakup can make it hard for you to trust anyone with your heart ever again. Don’t let yourself shut down. Being able to love is being able to love with an open heart. It’s being able to share your heart with someone who is special to you. If you can’t let down your walls, how do you ever expect for someone to get close to you? During the time apart, you do not have to date, but instead, be open. You never know who will divinely come into your life. If someone wants to take you out or get close to you, let them. The worst-case scenario is that it doesn’t work. Just make sure you are not limiting yourself. Remember, when one door closes, another one opens. You just have to make sure you are ready when it does so you can walk through it.
Don’t be afraid to let go.
If reaching out to your ex or trying to reconnect doesn’t work, it’s time to let go. I have read for so many people who have a hard time with this. Some have held onto past relationship even though the person they once were with has since remarried, starting a future with someone else. It’s not fair to you to stop your life. The best advice I can give you is to move on and open your heart up to dating someone. Some people are put into our life as lessons. They teach us patience, faith and trust among other things. Your next relationship will be so much more meaningful than the first.
Do you ever notice sometimes people in their second marriage have so much fun? Many times, it’s because the first marriage taught them valuable life lessons they have carried with them to the next relationship. Sometimes, the first time, we made a mistake and ended up with the wrong person. The moral of the story is that you do not know who you will feel a soul connection with until you get out and meet new people.
Trust in the divine plan.
If there is one thing I know, it’s that Heaven has your back. You are in the right place at the right time, even though you do not feel that way. Use this experience as a life lesson to learn and grow from. Take a look back on the things you did right in the relationship and the things you did wrong. Use them to your advantage. Start to think about your next relationship. What do you want to change? What do you want the relationship to be like?
Remember, in the end, if it’s meant to be, it will be. I have a personal story to share. My grandfather was crazy about a girl he met when he was 16. He wanted to be with her in the worst way and felt she was his soulmate. She turned him down for another man because he was “too young,” and she wanted someone older. She went on to meet her husband and my grandfather, broken-hearted, eventually went on to meet my grandmother whom he married. They both had beautiful families and kids in their lives apart.
Almost 50 years later, both of their significant others passed of illness around the same time. As fate would have it, they ran into one another all those years later and decided to pick up the relationship they had left behind in their teenage years. They never regretted marrying whom they did, but they were thankful to divinely connect in love years later.
That being said, trust in the road ahead. Life is too short to get hung up. Keep moving forward and everything will happen in a divine way. Take some time for yourself to heal. Remember, the thing you cannot understand now will all make sense as you look back on them in the future.
