A note from Matt
They’re closer than you think
“Here’s what I know, after thousands of readings. The people we love are in a good place. They’re not suffering, and they’re not waiting around for us. They visit to bring comfort. They want you to know they’re okay, that they still love you, and that they’re closer than you think. Most of all, they want you to live a full life. Live so fully that by the time you meet again, you’ll have so much to talk about.”
And you don’t need to be a medium to feel them close.
Almost every culture has a day set aside for exactly that. And Mexico has the Day of the Dead, and nobody on earth does it more beautifully. For two days every November, families build an altar for the people they’ve lost, with photos and candles and marigolds and the food they loved, and they welcome them home. Not with fear. With music and flowers and laughter and tears and more laughter.
This workbook learns from that tradition, by name and with gratitude. The Mexican families who keep it are the teachers. What I add is what I know from the other side.
No fear. No running away from death.
Just love, on purpose.
Everything in here is an invitation. Take what helps.
With love and light,
Matt
Inside the workbook
Everything you need to welcome them home
Read it in one evening, or in five short sittings. Go in order, or start wherever your heart pulls you. There is no wrong way to do this.
Light the first candle
Before you learn anything, bring them close. A photo, a candle, and their name said out loud. It takes two minutes.
A reunion, not a funeral
What the Day of the Dead really is, where it comes from, the days that matter, and five things worth getting right.
What goes on an altar, and why
The photograph, the candles, the marigolds, the water, the bread of the dead, and the meaning behind each one.
Build yours at home
A photo, a light, a flower, and one thing they loved is a complete altar. Simple steps and words to say as you light the candle.
Say their name
Saying their name is how you call them close. A page to write theirs, large, and the story of a mother who heard her daughter every single day.
Celebrate their story
Their saying, their laugh, their song, and a recipe card for the dish only they could make.
A quiet remembrance
Six gentle steps along a path of marigold petals to a doorway of golden light, and a place to write what came.
A letter, and their reply
Say what was left unsaid. Then listen, and write back in their voice.
Signs
How to notice the small, personal ones, how to tell, and a log to keep adding to.
Carry them forward
A living tribute, a yearly tradition, and a closing blessing to read out loud.
Made for pens. Print it at home, or fill it in on a tablet.
All you need to begin
Simple, gentle, and yours

A photo
Any photo of the person you’re remembering. No photo? A card with their name works just as well.

A candle
A real one, an LED candle, or the light on your phone. Every one of them counts.

A quiet half hour
A pen and 20 to 30 minutes. Use it on November 1 and 2, on their birthday, or any evening you miss them.
Love goes both ways.

Your questions
Is it really free?
Yes. There is nothing to buy and no purchase necessary. Enter your first name and email, and the workbook is emailed to you right away.
Do I need to know anything about the Day of the Dead?
Not at all. The workbook explains the tradition gently, from the very beginning, and then helps you make it your own for the person you’re remembering.
Do I have to join the live evening to use it?
No. The workbook stands on its own, any day of the year. The live evening is there if you’d like company.
Can I print it?
Yes. It’s a 48-page PDF made to be written in, with space for your altar, their name, their story, a letter, and the signs you notice. Print it at home, or fill it in on a tablet.
Is this a reading? Will I hear from my loved one?
It isn’t a reading, and no particular experience or message is promised. The workbook helps you remember, invite, and listen, and your love for them is just as real either way.
Is it a replacement for counseling?
No. It’s offered for spiritual comfort and personal reflection. It isn’t therapy or medical treatment and doesn’t replace professional mental health care.
Will Matt email me after this?
Yes. You’ll receive the workbook, and then occasional emails from Matt about live events and readings. You can unsubscribe at any time.
