If you’ve ever felt that bittersweet tug in your heart when the table is set for a family meal or the first snow falls, know this: your loved ones in Heaven feel it too. And they always find ways to let you know they’re near.
Why the Holidays Are So Spiritually Active
During the holidays, our hearts are wide open. We gather, we remember, and we feel deeply. That emotional openness makes it easier for Heaven to reach us.
Spirit loves to visit when families come together, when laughter fills the house, or even when you’re quietly wrapping gifts late at night. Their presence brings comfort and a gentle reminder that love doesn’t end. It simply changes form.
Here are some of the most common signs from Heaven that appear during the holidays, and what each one means.
1. Songs That Bring Back Memories
You’re in the car, and suddenly a song that reminds you of your loved one starts playing, not once but multiple times. Maybe it was their favorite Christmas tune or a song that played at a special moment you shared.
When this happens, it’s not coincidence. Spirit uses music because it stirs emotion and memory. It’s their way of saying:
“I’m with you. Remember this moment? I’m still part of it.”
2. Flickering Lights or Candles
If your lights twinkle or candles flicker unexpectedly when you’re thinking about someone who’s passed, it could be their energy.
Spirit can influence electricity because both are forms of pure energy, connected to the same divine energy that exists in Heaven.
That gentle flicker or sudden glow is a whisper from beyond.
3. Feathers, Cardinals, or Butterflies in Winter
Even in the coldest months, Spirit finds ways to send nature’s messengers. A cardinal perched outside your window, a feather on your doorstep, or a butterfly appearing in the middle of December are all Heaven’s calling cards.
Each carries love, reassurance, and the reminder that life goes on in a new form.

You might suddenly feel a warm hug when no one’s there, smell a familiar perfume, or sense someone standing behind you while you set the table or are decorating the tree. These aren’t tricks of your mind. They’re visits.

Beautiful explanation Matt. Often feathers catch my eye in all different places, on a walk, on my car on the walkway to my front door. Sometime I feel like it just me trying to convince myself that those are messages that I would want to get. How do I know who these feathers are from?
I had a loved one pass away 2 or 3 days after Christmas in 2020. He was the father of my youngest daughter. We were estranged for many, many years but I never stopped loving him. I believe he’s been around me and have seen signs from him. I believe I already know the answer to this but I guess I’m looking for confirmation. He was the love of my life even though life took us in different directions. I had relationships after him but I haven’t been in one since the end of 2019. I’ve been thinking about him a lot more since he passed away. So, my question is, even though we were estranged for many years, will I be able to receive signs from him and feel his presence? I guess I’m asking because my left brain is trying to convince me that I’m seeing or feeling what I want. Thank you.
