Signs from Heaven That Show Up During the Holidays and What They Mean

Matt Fraser in a beige coat stands at a black railing, looking thoughtfully into the distance with autumn trees behind him.

The holidays can be one of the most beautiful and emotional times of the year.
They bring joy, laughter, and family, but they can also stir up memories, longing, and a deep ache for the people we wish were still here to share it all with us.

If you’ve ever felt that bittersweet tug in your heart when the table is set for a family meal or the first snow falls, know this: your loved ones in Heaven feel it too. And they always find ways to let you know they’re near.

Why the Holidays Are So Spiritually Active

During the holidays, our hearts are wide open. We gather, we remember, and we feel deeply. That emotional openness makes it easier for Heaven to reach us.

Spirit loves to visit when families come together, when laughter fills the house, or even when you’re quietly wrapping gifts late at night. Their presence brings comfort and a gentle reminder that love doesn’t end. It simply changes form.

Here are some of the most common signs from Heaven that appear during the holidays, and what each one means.

1. Songs That Bring Back Memories

You’re in the car, and suddenly a song that reminds you of your loved one starts playing, not once but multiple times. Maybe it was their favorite Christmas tune or a song that played at a special moment you shared.

When this happens, it’s not coincidence. Spirit uses music because it stirs emotion and memory. It’s their way of saying:

“I’m with you. Remember this moment? I’m still part of it.”

2. Flickering Lights or Candles

If your lights twinkle or candles flicker unexpectedly when you’re thinking about someone who’s passed, it could be their energy.

Spirit can influence electricity because both are forms of pure energy, connected to the same divine energy that exists in Heaven.

That gentle flicker or sudden glow is a whisper from beyond.

3. Feathers, Cardinals, or Butterflies in Winter

Even in the coldest months, Spirit finds ways to send nature’s messengers. A cardinal perched outside your window, a feather on your doorstep, or a butterfly appearing in the middle of December are all Heaven’s calling cards.

Each carries love, reassurance, and the reminder that life goes on in a new form.

4. The Feeling of a Presence

You might suddenly feel a warm hug when no one’s there, smell a familiar perfume, or sense someone standing behind you while you set the table or are decorating the tree. These aren’t tricks of your mind. They’re visits.

When your loved ones step close, they blend their energy with yours so you can feel their love. That warmth, that sudden wave of emotion, it’s real.

5. Dreams That Feel More Real Than Real Life

Holiday dreams about loved ones who’ve passed are some of the most powerful signs of all. These aren’t ordinary dreams. They feel different. You remember every word, every detail, and you wake up with peace instead of pain.

That’s because you didn’t imagine it. It was a visit.

6. Sudden Memories or “Coincidences”

You might find yourself thinking about your loved one just before something meaningful happens, like hearing their favorite song, smelling their cologne, or seeing their name somewhere unexpected.

That’s called divine timing. Spirit orchestrates these little coincidences to catch your attention and remind you that they never left your side.

7. The Gift of Peace

Sometimes the greatest sign is simply peace. You might sit quietly by the fire, feel tears well up, and suddenly sense calm, as if someone placed their hand on your heart. That’s your loved one saying:

“I’m at peace. You can be too.”

Spirit doesn’t want you to live in sadness. They want you to smile, to laugh, to enjoy the lights, the food, and the memories, because that’s how they live on through you.

A Holiday Message from Heaven

This season, when you see that flicker of light, hear that special song, or feel that familiar warmth in your chest, pause. Smile. Whisper, “I know that’s you.”

Your loved ones don’t want you to mourn their absence. They want you to feel their presence.
They haven’t missed a single holiday. They’re right there in the laughter, the love, and the quiet moments in between.

Love never dies. It only changes form.
You can’t lose what’s eternal. You can only learn to see it differently.

Hugs from heaven,
Matt

  7. We walk the same route everyday, and today I found a long multi colored feather in our path and we have no clue what kind of bird it came from. Just read about the signs and I’m taking this as one.

  8. Thank you so much, Matt!
Such a tough time of year to not have my son share it with me. We had Christmas together every year for 44 years. So incredibly special.

  9. You have helped me deal with the passing of all of my family. I am the only one left and sometimes wonder why? I will see you in CT! Can’t wait! Dana

  10. I needed to hear this, Matt. This will be our 1st Christmas without my 104 year old Dad, 7 years without Mom, and almost 14 years without my husband. I admit, I’ve been missing them terribly…especially Dad being the most recent passing. Tonight I’m buying a ticket for your online reading. You make so many of us feel better… Thank You Matt!

  11. I wish my husband would come visit me. At first he gave me signs. I lost him very suddenly and unexpectedly. I never got to tell him how much I love him and say good bye. He’s been gone 5 1/2 years and the pain still eats me alive..

  12. Thank you Matt
You have been a much needed inspiration to me since losing my husband unexpectedly. I have many signs. I can’t tell you how many times I have read your books and find such comfort. I have gifted MANY friends and family with your books. GOD BLESS YOU

  13. Beautiful explanation Matt. Often feathers catch my eye in all different places, on a walk, on my car on the walkway to my front door. Sometime I feel like it just me trying to convince myself that those are messages that I would want to get. How do I know who these feathers are from?

  14. I had a loved one pass away 2 or 3 days after Christmas in 2020. He was the father of my youngest daughter. We were estranged for many, many years but I never stopped loving him. I believe he’s been around me and have seen signs from him. I believe I already know the answer to this but I guess I’m looking for confirmation. He was the love of my life even though life took us in different directions. I had relationships after him but I haven’t been in one since the end of 2019. I’ve been thinking about him a lot more since he passed away. So, my question is, even though we were estranged for many years, will I be able to receive signs from him and feel his presence? I guess I’m asking because my left brain is trying to convince me that I’m seeing or feeling what I want. Thank you.
