As a psychic medium, I’ve been told by spirit that the mind, body, and spirit are deeply connected. These parts of us work together, sharing energy and guiding our experiences—helping us heal, manifest, and grow. Over the years, I’ve seen how this connection can bring clarity and healing to others. But when I faced a challenge that hit so close to home, it became a lesson I had to live through myself.
For Alexa and me, that challenge was postpartum depression.
We’ve always had a strong relationship. Our love and connection felt unshakable. But after Royce was born, Alexa’s postpartum anxiety and depression came on hard and fast. It felt like everything we thought we knew about managing anxiety was suddenly thrown out the window. Even though we were trying to have another child, it just wasn’t happening. And deep down, I knew it wasn’t because of anything physical—it was because Alexa and I both needed to heal emotionally and spiritually first.
The Struggles You Can’t See
What makes postpartum depression so hard is how invisible it is. If someone breaks their leg, you see the cast and you know to hold the door open or offer help. But with postpartum depression, the struggles are inside. Alexa’s body healed from childbirth, but mentally and emotionally, she was still hurting—and it affected every part of her, including her spirit.
As her husband and as a psychic medium, I could feel the shift in her energy. She wasn’t herself, and no matter how much I tried to help, I couldn’t seem to reach her. It was heartbreaking because I could see her progress—even the little wins like taking a few extra steps each day or putting away laundry—but she couldn’t see it for herself. That’s what anxiety & depression does. It blinds you to the healing that’s already happening.
How We Got Through It
What helped us the most was pulling in support. Alexa couldn’t face this alone, and honestly, neither could I. We reached out to her mom, leaned on a doula, and eventually found a therapist who specialized in postpartum depression. It took a village to help her feel supported.
I also had to push Alexa out of her comfort zone sometimes. It wasn’t easy, but I knew she needed that nudge to take the next step. We tried grounding exercises, meditation, and energy work to clear the negative energy and bring in light and healing along with seeking the help of a therapist who specialized in postpartum depression & anxiety.
For those who don’t have the means or money for therapy, Alexa also found incredible support groups online. One platform that really stood out was the forums on What to Expect. Moms from all over would come together, share their stories, and lean on each other. Every week, they’d talk about what they were facing, offer advice, and just listen. Sometimes, just knowing you’re not alone can make a world of difference.
Another important step was having someone who could see her progress and remind her of it—and for Alexa, that was me. Day by day, I pointed out the small victories: a few extra steps, completing a simple chore, or even just smiling more. It’s easy to lose sight of progress when you’re in the thick of it, but having someone you trust to reflect your growth back to you can be a lifeline.
The Spiritual Side of Healing
As a medium, I’ve always understood how energy works. Our minds, bodies, and spirits are connected, and when one is out of balance, the others are affected. For Alexa, healing wasn’t just about her physical recovery from childbirth. It was about clearing the mental and emotional blocks that were holding her back and reconnecting her spirit to the vibrant, energetic self I knew was still there.
Sometimes, healing feels slow. It’s easy to get discouraged when progress doesn’t look the way you expect it to. But healing isn’t a straight line—it’s messy, with steps forward and steps back. The key is to keep going, to celebrate every little victory, and to surround yourself with the right tools, support and people.
Tools for Healing
If you’re going through postpartum depression, anxiety, or any kind of mental health struggle, here are some tools that helped us:
- Online Therapy: Services like BetterHelp make it easy to connect with a therapist who understands your needs. You can text, call, or video chat from the comfort of your home.
- Online Support Groups: Platforms like What to Expect connect you with other moms going through similar challenges. Sharing your experiences and hearing others’ stories can remind you that you’re not alone.
- Grounding Techniques: Try simple practices like walking barefoot on grass, focusing on your breath, or holding a grounding object like a crystal.
- Meditation and Visualization: Use guided meditations to clear your mind and invite positive energy into your space. Visualize light filling your body and releasing negativity.
- Support Networks: Lean on your family, friends, or a postpartum doula. Don’t try to do everything alone.
- Energy Work: Practices like Reiki, chakra balancing, or even just intentional moments of self-care can help realign your energy.
- Journaling: Write down your thoughts, feelings, and little victories. Seeing your progress on paper can be incredibly empowering.
- Grace and Patience: Give yourself the time and space to heal. Celebrate the small steps and remind yourself that this is just a season—it won’t last forever.
Moving Forward
Now, as Alexa and I prepare for baby number two, we feel more prepared and connected than ever. We’ve had the hard conversations, we’ve built our support network, and we’ve learned how to nurture not just our relationship but also our individual healing.
To anyone facing a similar struggle, please know this: you are not alone. Healing takes time, but it is possible. Your mind, body, and spirit are powerful, and when you nurture all three, you can move forward with strength and clarity. Reach out, ask for help, and trust in the process. There is light at the end of the tunnel—I promise you that.

Being the voice for those who suffer terribly with unspoken post-partum depression is so heroic. I know how difficult it is to focus on yourself. But giving hope and light to those walking the same path is nothing short of brave. The more you share your story the better you will feel as well as others being enlighten and strengthened. God bless you both!!!
You have not, nor do you suffer alone. Keep sharing hope!!
Mother of 4. I get it!!
I appreciate that you shared your experience and I’m so sorry for Alexa and any woman who experiences PostPartum depression. As a Reiki practitioner and one who meditates daily, I appreciate all the tools you listed to help not only these women but anyone dealing with mental health issues. May God bless you and your family.
I wish I was there so I could send and share a healing process that I do with just holding her hands
I will be sending Alexa positive energy and love for a healing
Also when I was going through my postpartum depression my oldest use to scream so loud that I thought she was possessed so I would pray and recite the rosaries 📿
It is a very personal process. Post partum depression and anxiety is real. I am a labor / delivery nurse and a mother. it is extremely helpful to discuss this openly. Support is so very helpful. Sometimes people need meds. Sometimes women need time. And some need a combo of things. Very individual journey. So glad that you are feeling well and looking forward to #2 .
Matt I would love to learn more Thank You so much ❤️🙏
