The ‘Stuck’ Phase: Why Feeling Lost is the First Step to Finding Your Purpose

Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night and stared at the ceiling, wondering if this is really all there is? You might be going through the motions of your daily life : folding the warm laundry that smells like lavender, driving the same route to work past that lopsided fence, or scrolling through your phone until your eyes burn : but deep down, you feel like you’re just spinning your wheels.

It’s that heavy, nagging feeling of being “stuck.”

Maybe you feel like you’re wandering through a thick fog where every direction looks exactly the same. You want to move forward, but you don’t even know where “forward” is anymore. You might even feel a little bit guilty about it. After all, your life might look perfectly fine from the outside, so why does it feel so empty on the inside?

Is there something wrong with me?

If you’ve been asking yourself that question, I want you to take a deep breath and listen closely: There is nothing wrong with you. In fact, this uncomfortable, “stuck” phase is actually one of the most important parts of your journey.

Entering the Spiritual Waiting Room

I like to call this phase the “spiritual waiting room.”

Think about the last time you sat in a physical waiting room. Maybe it was at the doctor’s office with those old magazines and the hum of the air conditioner, or at the airport watching the planes take off while you stayed grounded. Waiting is rarely fun. It feels passive, boring, and sometimes incredibly frustrating.

But here is the secret: things are happening behind the scenes while you wait.

In the spiritual waiting room, your soul is in a state of transition. You aren’t moving forward yet because you’re being prepared for what comes next. I once knew a woman who felt completely lost after her kids left for college. She’d spent twenty years being “Mom,” and suddenly, the house was quiet. The coat stand where the dog’s leash used to hang was empty, and the silence in the kitchen felt deafening. She felt stuck, but she didn’t realize that the silence was actually an invitation to rediscover who she was outside of her roles for others.

Understanding Soul Calibration

When you feel stuck, it’s often because your soul is undergoing what I call “soul calibration.”

Think of your soul like a high-tech instrument that needs to be tuned. Over time, the static of the world : the expectations of your boss, the pressures of social media, the old grief you haven’t quite processed : can knock you out of alignment.

When you feel that deep sense of dissatisfaction or “lostness,” it’s actually your soul telling you that you’ve outgrown your current container.

Why the Discomfort is a Good Sign

Imagine a lobster. As a lobster grows, its shell becomes tight and incredibly uncomfortable. To grow bigger, it has to crawl under a rock, shed its old shell, and wait for a new, larger one to form. During that time, it’s vulnerable and “stuck” under that rock. But without that period of discomfort and waiting, it could never grow.

You are much the same way. The discomfort you feel right now is the pressure of your old “shell” : your old habits, your old ways of thinking, and your old purpose : pressing against the person you are becoming.

  1. You are shedding old layers. You might find that things you used to love don’t interest you anymore. Maybe you don’t want to go to the same happy hours or talk about the same gossip. This isn’t you being “boring”; it’s you clearing space.
  2. Your intuition is waking up. When the external world feels “off,” it forces you to look internal. That restlessness is your soul’s way of getting your attention.
  3. You are being “re-tuned” for a higher frequency. To reach your next level of purpose, you have to be at the right spiritual vibration. The waiting room is where that adjustment happens.

Don’t Be Scared of the Silence

A lot of people get scared when they feel lost because they think it means they’ve lost their connection to Spirit. They think, “If I were on the right path, wouldn’t it feel easy?”

Not necessarily.

Sometimes the most profound growth happens in the dark, quiet spaces. I remember a client who came to me feeling completely stuck in her career. She felt like she was wandering aimlessly for two years. During those two years, she started gardening : just as a hobby to fill the time. She didn’t think it meant anything. But through that “aimless” time, she learned patience and the cycles of life, which eventually led her to start a non-profit that helps inner-city kids connect with nature.

She wasn’t lost; she was in training.

Has something like this ever happened to you? Have you ever looked back at a difficult time and realized that it gave you exactly what you needed for your future?

3 Signs Your ‘Stuck’ Phase is Actually Growth

If you’re feeling lost today, look for these signs that your soul is actually calibrating:

  • A Lack of Interest in the “Old Way”: You find it hard to fake enthusiasm for things that no longer serve you. This is not a lack of passion; it’s a shift in focus.
  • A Search for Meaning: You find yourself asking “Why?” more often. You’re no longer satisfied with just “getting by.” You want to know your impact on the world.
  • Vivid Dreams or “Coincidences”: Even if your waking life feels stalled, you might notice symbols popping up. Maybe you keep seeing a certain flower, or you hear a song on the radio that reminds you of a dream you had. These are breadcrumbs from the other side.

Don’t be scared of these feelings. They are the birth pains of a new version of you.

Why You Need to Know Your Soul Purpose

We all come into this world with a “blueprint” : a specific reason our soul chose this life, these challenges, and these people. When you don’t know what that blueprint is, the waiting room feels like a prison. But when you understand your soul’s purpose, the waiting room becomes a sanctuary.

It’s the difference between being lost in the woods without a map and being in the woods knowing you’re just a few miles from a beautiful destination.

Finding your purpose isn’t always about a “job.” Sometimes your purpose is to be a healer in your family, to break a cycle of trauma, or to bring light to a dark place. But you can’t see that purpose clearly when you’re overwhelmed by the “stuck” feeling.

You need to clear the static. You need to hear what your loved ones on the other side and your own soul are trying to tell you.

Taking the First Step Out of the Fog

I want to help you move out of the waiting room and into the life you were meant to live. You don’t have to wander aimlessly anymore.
