The Truth About Negative Energy – And How To Protect Yourself From It
One of the interesting things about being a medium is how it virtually erases your fear of anything related to ghosts, spirits, and the afterlife. Many people think it’s just the opposite. They worry that seeing a medium will open up a portal that lets ghosts and malignant energy through. I can assure you, that is not true. Just like with so many things in life, the more you understand something and the more time you spend around it, the less scary it becomes.
Mediumship and Negative Energy
Mediumship couldn’t be more far removed from ghost stories and horror movies. Take it from me, connecting someone with a loved one who has passed over is the most positive, light-filled, healing experience you can imagine.
Is there negative energy? Sure! Have I ever sensed a malignant spirit? Yes, but they’re extremely rare.
It’s easy to protect yourself from those rare spirits that could harm you. They won’t come after you unless you seek them out – and going to a medium with the intent of connecting with someone you love doesn’t fall into that category. If you’re worried about that, just watch your intentions, keep your energy light, and to play it safe, don’t mess around with spells, the occult, or Ouija boards.
The majority of the time, negative energy has nothing to do with ghosts, spirits, or mediumship. My mom always said, “Don’t worry about spirits, it’s the living you have to watch out for.”
Protecting Yourself From Darkness
Even though negative energy can’t hurt you when your own energy is positive, there may be times when you feel yourself weighed down by something that feels dark and heavy. When that happens, one of these might be the culprit:
World Events
There may be events happening in the world that you allow to scare or worry you. When things you can’t control are keeping you up at night, the best way to deal with them is to unplug for a while, take a break from the news and social media, and focus on positive people and things in your life. And if that sounds like you’re putting your head in the sand, you can always do your part to spread light and kindness whenever possible.
Energy Vampires
Or maybe the “attack” is a little closer to home…you may have heard of “energy vampires” – people who drain your life force and make you feel exhausted and overwhelmed. Energy vampires are not ghosts or any other supernatural being. They might be family members, co-workers, or neighbors, and while they are toxic, the good news is that if you’re aware enough to recognize an energy vampire when you see one you can protect yourself.
Dark Places
Even though hauntings are rare, there are some places that hold residual darkness. I share a few examples in my book We Never Die: Secrets of the Afterlife. There were cases when I was called in to remove a restless soul whose energy lingered. They scared a few people, but I was able to “air out” the areas affected and replace the dark with light.
Protecting Your Energy
Whatever the source, there are a few things you can do to give yourself a little extra protection from darkness:
- Imagine a mirrored wall around you, forming a protective barrier and reflecting negative energy away from you.
- Get to know your angels and guides and call upon them to protect you.
- Clear stagnant energy out of any living space that feels uncomfortable to you by burning sage. It really works!
- Take a few steps to infuse spaces that are new to you with your own energy. I like to personalize hotel rooms by putting a photo of Alexa and our two cats on the nightstand, and by playing some of my favorite disco tunes.
- When all else fails, open the windows and let the sunshine and fresh air in.
Be The Light!
One thing to remember is that darkness attracts darkness, and light attracts light. The more you focus on the positive, and make yourself a source of kindness and positivity, the less room you have for negative energy of any kind. If you think you can’t generate enough light to drive away evil, think again. It’s like Mahatma Gandhi said, “Even a single lamp dispels the deepest darkness.”
Connecting Through a Psychic Medium
One of the best ways to learn about heaven and the afterlife is by connecting with a psychic medium. With every reading that I do, I am always amazed at how much the spirit world shares through their messages. Another time my back yard grew a small patch of flowers “forget me nots” my mom used to grow when I was a child. Once the flowers died, they never came back. Oh, I never planted a flower in my life!! Satan and HELL are in my opinion absence from God and love. We create our own Satan and Hell. Shift focus away from bad and evil and replace with positivity, life, love and empathy. Dispel the “beast” from your life through prayer and thoughts, “he” cannot enter unless you let him in. Fight the fight with good! Every word I say is true, I have been shrouded in a protective warmth from my Prince of Peace for my life. He protects me and I thank him every time something good happens as good comes from God. I like this article, it reminds us that the negative energy we need to worry about it’s most often from other pey and not entities. I totally agree that dark or negative spirits are really rare and can’t harm you anyway. Hi Matt, Congratulations on your little Angel. I just had May first little Grand Angel in Feb. I have been saying my prayers more intensely lately and asking my crossed over family and Friends for help. I don’t know if you can help me, but, recently my health has been failing badly, and I can’t help my daughter with her newborn. Why, or howdo I know, I had a brain bledfing through whic I have been dead for 3 minutes. During that time I saw beatiful thinhs line my moher, cat and dog. Ofcourse you might think, “sure thats propably a dream or some brains still reacting while yoy were in a coma. I was thinking exactly the same, dream, brain fantasy etc. But dont forget I was actually dead for 3 minutes, meaning I my brains , heart, blood was flat lined, dead not working, so how is it possible to have iving dreams during that period… whêI came back from thos lovely place back to reality, my hurting body, I was angry, and very sad, I wanted to go back to this lovely, calming, beatiful place with my mom, dog and cat, but mostly because of the lovely surroundings!!! So I would say stay strong an courageoys, and don’t forget your 2 sons are very close to you and watching you hopin you wil refond the joy of living! Som ple1se go for it and don’t forget all this is temporarely, and soon you wiml meat your 2 sons! Me myself I’m trying to convince everybody, my wife, kids, dad, psychologist to convince I’m good and know living is great but in realuty evrry fay, minute, second is a challenge to find happiness and to convince myself to continue life… so let’s go for it I would say and every day is 1 day won and les to survive. Hi Matt. I usually don’t dream or I might remember my dreams because I sleep less than 6 hours at time just 4 hours a night. I do wake up at 2:22 or 3:33 and mostly every morning I see 4:44 and 5:555. I do see Angel number all day. The one dream I had was that you were talking to my parents. Both are gone. DD 38 years almost 39 mom been gone since 2006. I’m going though sone stuff and stress. I’ve been thinking I wish my dad was around. He would not let me go though the things I been going through. I want to premise this post by saying how much I love what you do, but more importantly the manner in which you do it. I have already attended one live reading and have my ticket for the next one. I think your work is phenomenal. However, I was a little disappointed to see what you wrote in the section on Mediumship and Negative Energy. More specifically the third paragraph and last sentence. I know that you come from a religious background and I can respect your beliefs very well. My beliefs are quite different.
With that said the part that I was disappointed to see was the thing you wrote about spells and the occult. I have many friends of many belief systems and because of my extensive education, I totally get where you are coming from with this. However, I feel it misguidedly shines a “negative” light on those two concepts that I am saddened to see on here. In my belief systems, those two things can be used in a negative way like most things in life, but they are used by most people who are into them, in ways that are quite positive. I am also a medium, forensic thanatologist, religious counselor, priest, and much more. I hold several religious degrees and other secular academic degrees as well. I just found it surprising and was disturbed to have it put that way.
I don’t want you to think this is all doom and gloom. I agree with everything else you wrote including what you said about Ouija boards. To me they’re demonic and you’re correct to suggest people don’t mess with them. So, I hope this information is read and interpreted. I didn’t mean to come on here to rant or to create a problem. What brought me to you was actually the loss of my dog. Although you don’t do readings for animals you have given me a clear understanding of what happens to animals when they transition.
I also subscribe to several animal psychics and mediums, but you are the one who has given me a very clear picture of souls and heaven. In so doing I have begun to know so many things about the meaning and purpose of life and “how things work”.
So many times, I’ve had questions regarding my departed dog. He has been sending me signs and messages almost on a daily basis, he has sent me thoughts and guidance and visible signs such as butterflies and dragonflies who fly into my house and perch on me or stay on my nightlamp to watch over me, he has moved objects, turned his picture. I’ve even seen him as an energy form moving from one corner of the house to the other.
In all of this, it is you that has helped me decipher his messages. In your videos you speak of these things without even knowing that these are the exact questions I have in my head.
Yes they send videos too, not just songs. And yes again, deleted photos of him have popped up on my phone unexpectedly. You spoke of this in one of your videos. It was a mystery to me when it happened but when I saw your video, it all clicked.
Sometimes my boy will send me videos too, your videos (sometimes others) to answer the burning questions that I ask him.
And you are right. “The more you understand something, the less afraid you are of it.”
You are helping a lot of people Matt. Not just those who have lost a human loved one but pets. They are loved ones too.
