My Medium Morning Routine: 3 Simple Rituals to Protect Your Peace

Have you ever woken up and immediately felt like you were carrying the weight of the entire world? You haven’t even climbed out of bed yet, but your mind is already racing with your to-do list, the news on your phone, and that nagging feeling of anxiety that just won’t quit.

Trust me, I’ve been there. As a medium, I am constantly bombarded by energy. If I don’t take care of my “spiritual hygiene” first thing in the morning, I can end up feeling drained, foggy, and completely out of sync before I’ve even had my first cup of coffee.

People often ask me, “Matt, how do you stay so upbeat and energized when you’re constantly talking to the other side?”

The secret isn’t some complicated, hours-long ceremony. It’s about simple, daily rituals that protect your peace. You don’t have to be a psychic to need this. Whether you’re a busy parent, a stressed-out professional, or just someone who feels “different” than everyone else, these practices will help you keep your energy clear and your heart open.

1. Disconnect to Reconnect (The Digital Fast)

The very first thing most of us do when we wake up is reach for that cell phone. We check emails, scroll through social media, or read the morning news headlines.

But here is the truth: when you do that, you are letting the rest of the world dictate your energy before you’ve even had a chance to find your own. You are inviting thousands of voices into your head before you’ve even said good morning to yourself.

I once knew a woman who felt constantly overwhelmed by “spirits” and negative vibes. When we looked at her routine, she was spending her first thirty minutes of every day reading tragic news stories in bed. No wonder she felt heavy!

The Ritual:
Try to keep your phone on airplane mode or in another room for at least the first twenty minutes of your day. Use this time to sit up, notice your breathing, and just “be you” without the digital noise. This simple boundary keeps your energy from being pulled in a million different directions. It’s about reclaiming your morning for yourself.

2. The Grounding Walk: Your Spiritual Gym

I’ve always said that walking is my version of a spiritual gym. It’s where I get my most vivid intuitive hits and my greatest clarity.

When we are stuck inside our houses and inside our heads, our energy becomes stagnant. We start to feel “floaty” or ungrounded. This is especially true if you are an old soul or someone who is naturally sensitive to the world around them.

Recently, a client of mine was struggling with massive brain fog. She couldn’t make a decision to save her life. I told her, “Leave your phone at home and just go walk around the block.” She came back and told me it felt like a thick cloud had finally lifted.

The Ritual:
Take a 10-minute “clarity walk” every morning. If you can do it barefoot on the grass (earthing), even better! But even just walking down the sidewalk works. As you walk, imagine your feet are like magnets, pulling strength from the earth and letting any “static” or stress drain out of your body.

Don’t listen to a podcast. Don’t take a call. Just walk and listen to the world around you. You’ll be amazed at the messages that start to come through when you give yourself the space to hear them.

3. The Golden Bubble: Energy Shielding

Think of your energy like a beautiful, white linen shirt. If you go through the day without any protection, you’re bound to get a few stains on it, right?

In the spiritual world, we call this energy shielding. It’s about creating a boundary so that other people’s bad moods, stress, or “vibes” don’t stick to you. This is one of the most important psychic abilities you can develop: the ability to protect your own light.

The Ritual:
Before you leave the house (or start your workday), close your eyes for thirty seconds. Visualize a bright, shimmering bubble of golden light surrounding your entire body.

Tell yourself: “Only love and light can enter this space. Anything that is not mine must stay outside.”

It might sound simple, but the intention is incredibly powerful. You are setting a spiritual boundary. You are deciding that you will not be a sponge for everyone else’s drama. When I’m heading into a sold-out event to do readings, I always take a moment to “zip up” my energy like this. It keeps me from getting overwhelmed by the heavy emotions in the room.
